Geneva man charged with attempted carjacking, theft

A Geneva man has been charged with attempted carjacking, accused of trying to take a woman's car Friday at Kohl's, 251 N. Randall Road, Batavia.

Police said they arrested Marvell M. Frye, 22, at 5:24 p.m. He was later charged with attempted vehicular invasion, a felony. He was also charged with retail theft, accused of stealing a men's jacket from the store.

It was his second brush with Batavia police that day. At 2:46 p.m., Frye was charged with assault at Art Van Furniture, 165 N. Randall Road. According to Kane County records, he was accused of throwing a small, metal wrench at a man.

Frye was being held in the Kane County jail on $100,000 bail. His next court date is May 27.

The attempted carjacking is punishable by probation to seven years in prison.

Frye's only other criminal charge in Kane County, according to court records, was an arrest for misdemeanor disorderly conduct from a Sept. 29, 2014 case in Elgin in which was accused of blocking a nurse's station at Advocate Sherman Hospital and refusing to leave. The disposition is not clear.
