Barefoot Bay celebrating 10 years in Mundelein

On a warm spring afternoon, maintenance employee Dylan Ringham bustled about the swimming pools carrying inner tubes and checking the water as other workers put finishing touches on Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center in Mundelein.

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District aquatic park, which opens to the public Saturday at 11 a.m. for the summer season, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

"We will be ready to open on Saturday for the Memorial Day weekend and everything is ready to go," said Mike Krauleidis, aquatics maintenance supervisor. "Water is filled in the pools, the slides will be running and the climbing wall will be ready so we hope that everyone can have a good time."

The park features a 740-foot lazy river, a zero-depth swimming pool, an AquaClimb water wall, several tube slides and a fenced tot swim area.

The park is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday this weekend before opening daily starting June 4. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the general public, and season pass holders are allowed in at 10 a.m.

The park will have a special 10-year anniversary bash Thursday, July 7, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with prices rolled back to 2006 daily rates.
