Jaguars 1st-round draft pick Ramsey signs rookie contract

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey, the fifth overall pick in the NFL draft, has signed a four-year contract.

Under the NFL's rookie salary slotting system, the contract is expected to be worth more than $23 million and include a $15 million signing bonus.

The team announced Ramsey's signing Sunday, days before he gets a second opinion on his injured right knee.

The former Florida State standout sustained a "small tear to the meniscus" in his knee during an on-field workout earlier this week. He is scheduled to meet with renowned specialist Dr. James Andrews early next week. Ramsey might need surgery, but the Jaguars don't expect him to miss the entire season.

It's the second time in as many years that Jacksonville's top draft pick was hurt long before training camp. Defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. missed last season with a knee injury.
