Hanover Park man faces weapon charge

A Hanover Park man was arrested Saturday after he was found in possession of a handgun during a traffic stop in Elgin, officials said.

Giovonni Rhodes, 24, is facing a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to a news release from Elgin police. His bail was set at $100,000 Sunday.

Police began an investigation after conducting a traffic stop about 3 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Oakland Avenue, officials said. With the help of a K-9 unit, officers searched the vehicle and found the handgun “located in the area of one of the occupants,” later identified as Rhodes, police said.
