Baseball: Pietschmann produces at Carmel tops Grayslake North

Eddie Pietschmann earned the win and helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, as Carmel Catholic's baseball team beat Grayslake North 9-2 in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Carmel (20-9), the East Suburban Catholic Conference champion, hit the 20-win mark under first-year head coach Bill Taylor.

Matt Collins was 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Corsairs, who also got a pair of hits each from Austin Ehren and Cooper Johnson.

Pietschmann allowed 1 run over 4 innings, striking out two and walking two.

Jake Damore doubled for Grayslake North, and Stefan Davis was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Lakes 12, Marian Central 0: Lakes ran out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Ryan Selig drove in 2 runs and had a triple for the Eagles, who improve to 16-14 on the season.

Winning pitcher Matt Milewski had 3 strikeouts and allowed only 1 walk over three innings.

Grayslake North 5, Carmel 2: Charlie Burr had 2 hits, including a triple for Grayslake North.

Winning pitcher Sebastian Sancen gave up just 1 walk over 5 2/3 innings. He also rolled up 3 strikeouts.

Mundelein 11, Highland Park 0: Winning pitcher Zach Zentz struck out 11 and retired 15 of 16 batters he faced.

Jake Breitenreiter went 3-for-3 for the Mustangs while Brett Parola went 2-for-2 with a double and Nick Stricker added a triple.

Lake Zurich 6, Maine West 5: Alex Krueger had 3 hits and Kevin Johlie and Zach Bauman added 2 hits apiece as Lake Zurich, which scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh, rolled up a total of 12 hits.

Winning pitcher Trevor Niedzwiecki closed the game with 2 strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings.

Wauconda 3, Grayslake Central 0: Brian Mcfarlin had 2 hits, both doubles, as Wauconda got the shutout victory.

Winning pitcher Korey Soetaert threw a 1-hitter with only 1 walk. He also rolled up 5 strikeouts.

Sam Nozicka had Grayslake Central's only hit.

Round Lake 5, Chicago Northtown 4: Round Lake scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.

Amadeus Pope had a home run for the Panthers while Tyler Roman and Ben Graff each had 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Zack Husk had 2 strikeouts and did not allow a hit over the final 2 2/3 innings.

Stevenson 6, Cary-Grove 4: Charlie Ling, Dylan Molek and Robbie McGaha each had 2 hits for Stevenson.

Glenbrook North 6, Libertyville 1: Tim Calamari had 2 hits for Libertyville.

Oak Forest 3, Vernon Hills 2: Brennan Reback had 2 hits and drove in a run for Vernon Hills.
