Girls soccer: Kaneland, Crystal Lake South win regional titles
The Kaneland girls soccer team repeated as a regional champion with a 1-0 win over Dixon to win the Class 2A Sterling regional Friday.
Gabby Cano was the hero for the Knights with her goal in the 68th minute on a feed from Ashley Crotteau. Emily Chapman pitched another shutout in goal and the win sends the Knights (16-4-2) to the semifinals of the Class 2A DeKalb sectional against Rockford Boylan, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
CL South 3, Cary-Grove 2 (OT): The Gators (15-5-1) won their first crown since 2011 in dramatic fashion, overcoming a 2-0 second half deficit to force overtime and steal the Class 3A Cary-Grove regional title from the host Trojans. Emily Warren provided the game-winner with 8:53 left in the second overtime, while Courtney Sengstock and Jess Schoenfeldt scored goals 8 minutes apart in the final 16 minutes of regulation. CL South advances to the semifinals of the Class 3A Streamwood sectional against Harlem Wednesday at 5 p.m.
