COD Art Students Share Talents at School on Chicago's South Side

May 19, 2016 - Continuing her efforts to use art as a learning tool and to inspire youth, College of DuPage Professor Jennifer Hereth and her painting classes recently shared their talents with students at Kwame Nkrumah Academy on Chicago's South Side. More than 300 students at the school participated in the May 5 outreach event, which teamed students from COD's Art program with Academy students to create a variety of paintings. Academy students also received books and small art-themed care packages while school administrators were presented with a check for $580 to help fund equipment for their science program. As a permanent memento of the day, I-Artists, a non-profit arts community Hereth helped found, commissioned artist Alex Bradley Cohen to create a mural of famous African American figures at the Academy.
