Boomers drop road trip finale

AVON, Ohio - The Schaumburg Boomers completed a season-opening road trip with a 6-4 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers, who swept all three games.

The Boomers battled from down 3 runs to even the score, but could not take the lead. Lake Erie scored a single run in the fourth and two in the fifth against starter Seth Webster. Jordan Dean opened a 3-run sixth with a ground rule double and scored the first run since the 11th inning on Tuesday on a single from Paul Kronenfeld. Mikal Hill and Ino Patron each added 2 RBI singles to tie the game before Lake Erie scored in each of the final three trips to the plate to win.

Webster logged 6 innings in his second start, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits to suffer the loss. Dean and Patron each tallied a pair of hits in the defeat. Schaumburg finished the road trip 1-5 with all six contests decided by three runs or fewer. The Boomers held the lead for only a half inning of the first contest in the entire series.
