Baseball: Hoffman Estates is a hit against Streamwood

Host Hoffman Estates had a hard-hitting effort in a 12-2, 6-inning nonconference baseball victory over Streamwood on Thursday.

Ryan Ward doubled and drove in 4 runs and John Keller came up with a pinch-hit 2-run homer for the Hawks.

Luke Kulton contributed 2 hits and 2 RBI, and also earned the win after providing 3⅔ innings of scoreless relief for Hoffman Estates (12-16), which won its second straight.

St. Viator 8, Prospect 7: The visiting Lions tied the game with a 6-run sixth inning, then scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on a single from Jack Coney and were able to hang on for a nonconference victory.

Mike Ragauskis, Dan Sullivan, Jack Sexton, Shaun Falbo and Coney finished with 2 hits apiece, and Cole Kmet homered and drove in 3 runs for the Lions (18-15).

Ryan Howe homered and finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for Prospect (19-10), which also got a productive plate effort from Trevor Engquist (2-for-4, double).

Kmet earned the decision after contributing 1⅔ innings of 1-hit relief.

Crystal Lake South 3, Schaumburg 0: Andrew Ralston had a pair of hits and Chris Broccolino and Tommy Larsen both doubled, but the host Gators managed to keep the Saxons (13-16) off the scoreboard in nonconference play.

Hersey 5, Yorkville 5: Brett Harris went 3-for-4 and Paul Tokar and Tanner Luke had doubles before the teams ran out of daylight in the seventh inning in Yorkville.

Glenbard West 4, Leyden 3: The visiting Hilltoppers did all their scoring in the third inning and managed to hold on for a nonconference win despite 2 hits each for Matt Ozanic and Adrian Perez of Leyden (15-17).

Glenbrook North 3, Rolling Meadows 0: Marco Perez had 2 of 6 hits for the host Mustangs (5-23), who played error-free defense. But Glenbrook North made the most of 5 walks and 3 hits to earn a nonconference victory.
