Main suspect in Elgin kidnapping, torture captured

The primary suspect in a February kidnapping and torture of a 19-year-old in Elgin has been arrested in Mexico and is being held on $200,000 bail in the Kane County jail. Luis M. Palomar, 18, of the 0-99 block of Clark Avenue in Lake in the Hills, was in court briefly Wednesday. Full story.

Schaumburg business owner accused of underpaying union workers

The owner of a Schaumburg construction company was charged in federal criminal court on Wednesday after being accused of intentionally underpaying his union-affiliated employees by more than $1.5 million, and underfunding their pension and welfare funds by another $1 million, according to a news release. Sugar Grove woman is missing

Officials are asking for help locating a missing woman with Alzheimer's disease. Margaret "Peggy" Banks, was last seen around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when she left her home in the Sugar Grove area, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff's office. Full story.

A resident returned home around 5:11 p.m. and discovered fire burning along the exterior of an attached garage at the home in the 500 block of Nancy Court, according to a news release from the Wauconda Fire Department. Full story.

Coach: Legalizing fantasy sports puts student athletes at risk

A suburban baseball coach warned Illinois lawmakers that fantasy sports contests are wagering in the eyes of the NCAA and put student athletes who participate at risk of being suspended. "It is not enough to simply put an age restriction; you should not allow these proprietors to allow student-athletes to risk their academic and athletic future," Phil Apostle, founder and coach of the Glenview-based Ranchers Baseball, said in a letter.
