Schaumburg Boomers drop matinee to Lake Erie

AVON, Ohio - The Schaumburg Boomers struggled to get any offense moving in a 3-0 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers on Wednesday.

Lake Erie (4-0) starter Fernando Gallegos retired the first 16 Schaumburg hitters to come to the plate. James Keller notched the first hit in the top of the sixth. Josh Heddinger matched Gallegos, retiring the first nine Lake Erie batters. Heddinger faced the minimum through the first four innings. The only offense came on a three-run homer from Daniel Aldrich in the fifth, accounting for all the scoring. The Boomers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but could not break through. Schaumburg (1-4) finished with just three hits.

Heddinger worked six innings but suffered the loss. The decision marked the first fir a starter this season. Jordan Dean picked up one of the three hits and has tallied a hit in every contest this season. Justin Byrd, Mark Nelson, and Dean have reached base in every game this year. All five games have been decided by three runs or less. Kagen Hopkins struck out three in a pair of scoreless innings in place of Heddinger.
