SEC to have officials at headquarters assist on replay calls

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Southeastern Conference will have officials at headquarters helping with instant replay rulings during the upcoming football season.

The SEC said Tuesday the league's athletics directors voted unanimously in favor of the change. The Atlantic Coast Conference had already announced a similar plan last week.

The NCAA Football Rules Committee, in response to a request by the SEC, agreed to allow conferences to use a collaborative process for instant replay on an experimental basis.

The SEC had successfully tested the technology to support the process at a spring football game in April.

Commissioner Greg Sankey says the change "will enhance the conference's football officiating program."

SEC coordinator of football officials Steve Shaw will release details of the plan at the league's spring meetings in Destin, Florida
