West Chicago man survives hit-and-run, finishes mowing lawn

A West Chicago man survived getting hit by a minivan Friday while mowing his lawn, ABC 7 Chicago reported. Guadalupe Ballinas was helping his son mow the lawn in West Chicago when the minivan veered off the road, knocked him down violently and then sped off. "You are not alone" is the dominant message of a new set of signs posted in a well-traveled place where people truly are not alone but very much in public. Marmion student dies after freak accident

A 17-year-old Marmion Academy student died yesterday after falling off a vehicle's running board Friday in the Aurora school's north parking lot. Stephen J. Woodcock, 17, of St. Charles died at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. He had been flown directly to the hospital after the accident around 3:45 p.m. Friday at the school, 1000 Butterfield Road. Full story.

Lake Zurich hears modified plan for Kmart site

A modified proposal for apartments and a retail development on a long-vacant Kmart site was presented to the Lake Zurich village board Monday night. Garden Homes Management Corp. would demolish the Kmart and replace it with three 4-story apartment buildings and a retail center. There would be indoor parking for the one-, two- and three-bedroom rental units from 910 to 1,680 square feet. Full story.
