I was recently on assignment at the Fox Valley Wildlife Center in Elburn to photograph some baby ducks who were hatched by a wild turkey surrogate mother. I didn't have much time to pay attention to anything else since those little ducklings weren't making it easy on me, but on my way out an owl caught my eye (not literally). Turns out there were a pair of owls there who had both lost an eye. I believe they were in separate car vs. owl incidents. After several TV and newspaper reporters and photographers had come and gone in the small space that morning, that one eye this handsome owl had left gave me a look that said he'd (or she'd) seen enough of my kind that day.
