We can't afford 10-year teachers contract

(To Scott Thompson, superintendent of Palatine Township Elementary District 15.)

First, I must tell you that I have the utmost respect for teachers in District 15. They did a wonderful job of educating my son and a few of them are actually relatives, friends and neighbors.

However, the 10-year contract that the totally one-sided board voted in (after the only possible opposing member, Manjula Sriram, resigned in November 2015) is ridiculous.

The fact that the district refuses to release details of the contents of this contract should be an indication of the lack of transparency from District 15's board. A majority of our real estate taxes already go District 15 and District 211 (not to mention taxes to the state of Illinois and Cook County).

Your statement that the reaction from the residents has been supportive is wrong on all levels. Let me be clear, I do not support this 10-year teachers contract!

Good luck with this contract if you actually push it through. In 10 years there won't be anyone living in the Northwest suburbs to pay for all the benefits you plan to pass on to the teachers. We'll all have moved out of state.

This letter is being sent because my husband and I won't be able to attend the May 11 board meeting. Instead we're attending a retirement seminar to figure out how to make our money last through our senior years.
