Softball: Radke fans 17 in nonconference victory

Reagen Radke struck out 17 batters and allowed only 1 earned run, and Grayslake Central's softball team beat visiting Prospect 7-3 in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader Saturday morning.

Radke yielded just 4 hits, including a home run to Lauren Caldrone, and 2 walks in her 7 innings. The Rams junior also went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI. Trinity Buck led GC's 11-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Brooke Heraty and Maddie Marshall each had 2 hits, and Teagan Truskowski contributed a double and an RBI.

Prospect won the second game 13-7 to drop Grayslake Central's record to 17-13.

Zoey Styczen went 3-for-4 for the Rams, and Nicole Warren was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Wauconda 13, Round Lake 2: Kayla Serio went 3-for-4 with a double and pitched 4 innings for the win, as the Bulldogs clinched a share of the North Suburban Prairie Division title for the third year in a row.

Alex Steffens was 3-for-4 with a triple for Wauconda (21-6, 9-1), which closes out division play with games against Grant (on Monday) and Vernon Hills (on Tuesday). Kayla Wedl and Mallory Carver (3 RBI) each had 2 hits, including a double. Serio allowed 1 run (unearned), struck out six and walked one.

Wauconda is 15-2 in its last 17 games, with its only losses being by 1 run to both Warren and Libertyville.

Carmel splits with Nazareth: The Corsairs won 4-1 in the first game of the East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader, before suffering a 9-6 loss.

In Game 1, Amanda Elert was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI, while Taylor Ganan went 2-for-3. Jen Giesey (1-for-2) had a triple, RBI and 2 walks. Claire Petrus pitched all 7 innings, striking out five while allowing 3 walks and 4 hits. She did not allow an earned run.

In Game 2, Karina Falkstrom was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for Carmel (18-8, 5-3). Emma Bartz (1-for-3) had a triple and an RBI. Sydney Schuda suffered the loss.

Carmel visits Marian Catholic for an ESCC doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon.
