Hoffman Estates man held on $1 million in suburban robbery spree

A Hoffman Estates man was ordered held on $1 million bail Friday following his arrest on a string of armed robberies this week in the Northwest suburbs.

Andrew Sivven, 41, has been charged with four counts of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance in connection with robberies in Arlington Heights, Streamwood, Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows. At the time of his arrest, Sivven was wanted on a warrant for an October 2015 armed robbery in Morton Grove, prosecutors said.

Cook County assistant state's attorney David Shin said the first of the four robberies was Sunday at a gas station in the 1700 block of Algonquin Road in Arlington Heights. Shin said Sivven displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, who handed over $194. Shin said Sivven was captured by video surveillance leaving the gas station with the money in a plastic bag and getting into a white sedan.

On Monday, Shin said, Sivven robbed a Streamwood convenience store, leaving with about $1,400. The third robbery was Tuesday, at a fast-food restaurant in the 1700 block of Algonquin Road in Mount Prospect. Shin said Sivven once again displayed a gun, demanded money and left with $175 in a white sedan.

The fourth robbery, involving $418, was Wednesday at a store in the 1600 block of Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows, Shin said.

Streamwood police located Sivven at a Hoffman Estates motel which requires guests to register their vehicles.

Morton Grove police, responding to a regional alert, identified Sivven as a suspect in an Oct. 21, 2015, robbery which had the "same modus operandi," said Shin.

Police arrested Sivven Thursday at the motel, where they recovered a pellet gun and several other items tied to the robberies, as well as a small amount of drugs, Shin said.

Sivven next appears in Rolling Meadows on May 20. He appears in Skokie, on the Morton Grove case, on May 16. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces a minimum of 12 years in prison, prosecutors said.
