Midwest travel: Go Wright to the source during Great American Housewalk

Chicago

Turn to the Wright

Every year on the third Saturday in May, owners of historic Frank Lloyd Wright houses and other landmark residences invite the public inside the carefully restored homes for Wright Plus, The Great American Housewalk. The 2016 edition examines the Prairie School's early 20th-century architecture with interior tours of nine private homes in Oak Park and River Forest - four homes designed by Wright and five buildings by architects who worked in his Oak Park studio. Attendees also will tour the creative beehive, Frank Lloyd Wright's Home and Studio. Wright Plus tickets include entry to Wright's Prairie-style masterpiece, the Frederick C. Robie House in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in Oak Park and River Forest and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, in Hyde Park. Tickets cost $95 for Frank Lloyd Wright Trust members, $110 for nonmembers. Discount for purchase of four or more tickets ($90 each, which is $20 off the nonmember price of $110). For details about the Housewalk and its many related events, visit flwright.org/wrightplus.
