Breeze through town during Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg

Hop on a bicycle and celebrate Schaumburg's German heritage during the annual Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg Bike Ride & Picnic.

The Schaumburg Park District's annual ride, sponsored by the Village of Schaumburg, is police-guided and begins at noon May 22 at Blackwell Elementary School, 345 N. Walnut Lane, and ends at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court.

The more than 5-mile, one-hour ride concludes with a picnic including a hot dog or brat, chips and a drink. A limited supply of T-shirts will be available for $10. Musical entertainment will be provided by a DJ at the end of the tour.

"It's an awesome event for the entire community," said Kathleen Benson, Bock Neighborhood Center manager and general program supervisor.

Registration is not required and there is no cost to participate. All cyclists must sign a liability waiver before departure and will receive wristbands that allow access to the picnic.

Bus transportation will be available starting at 1:45 p.m. from the Municipal Center back to Blackwell. Because of the distance, beginners and riders with training wheels are not advised to participate.
