On May 18th at Five Seasons Northbrook: 'Success Without Stress' For Teens

Helping teens navigate the academic, emotional and social challenges of middle school and beyond is the focus of a program at Five Seasons Family Sports Club in Northbrook on Wednesday, May 18th.

The 90-minute class at the club, 1300 Techny Road, begins at 7 p.m. The session is geared toward parents and will be led by Dori Mages, a North Shore-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker, along with Jill Burstein and Jordan Burstein of Northbrook-based JJB Educational Consulting.

They will explore a variety of topics, including the impact of extracurricular activities on students, the importance of critical thinking and executive functioning skills for students, and what college admissions counselors like to see in student applications.

For more than 20 years, Mages has worked with children, teens, parents, and families in foster care, schools, private practices, clinics, and hospitals. In 2012, she founded her therapy practice, North Shore Family Services, LLC with offices in Deerfield and in Lincoln Park.

A professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, Jill Burstein's background as a special educator includes the past 16 years helping students with learning differences find appropriate matches for college and post-secondary programs.

Jordan Burstein, who has ADHD and other learning disabilities, received a degree in psychology and draws upon his prior academic struggles to work with elementary and high school students as an executive functioning coach assisting them with time-management and organizational skills.

He also helps elementary, middle and high school students find private/boarding schools, colleges and post-secondary programs most appropriate for them.
