Culver's provides yummy treat for nurses across Chicago area

Culver's restaurants across the Chicago area were busy this week celebrating National Nurses Week, treating thousands of nurses at several area Advocate hospitals with surprise custard sundae parties.

On Wednesday, May 11, it was Advocate Good Samaritan where Culver's owners and team members from nearby Lombard and Downers Grove were on hand to scoop.

Nurses lined up for nearly two hours and enjoyed Culver's famous frozen custard along with their choice of sumptuous toppings including hot fudge, caramel, Oreo cookie crumbles, fresh strawberries, whipped cream and cherries.

"They were thanking us for being here but we were thanking them for all they do," laughed Katie Bulgrin, owner of Culver's of Downers Grove. "Culver's is all about building relationships in the communities where we serve our guests. Today was a perfect opportunity to show our gratitude to Good Samaritan's nursing staff, who do everything they can to help make their patients' treatment as comfortable and worrisome-free as possible."

Among other Culver's celebrating Nurses Week were teams from Bridgeview and Evergreen Park, who scooped more than 700 dishes of chocolate and vanilla custard to nurses working at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn on Monday, May 9.

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week each year.
