Barrington High softball team joins ALS drive to support teammate

In a previous version of this story, Carly Kordich's name was misspelled.

For the first time, Barrington High varsity softball players will join their baseball-playing counterparts this weekend when they go out in the community to raise money for ALS research.

Their involvement is personal because the father of center fielder Carly Kordich has been diagnosed with the disease, according to Bob Lee, a Barrington resident and member of the Les Turner ALS Foundation.

Lee said Jeff Kordich has been a fixture at the team's games, often sitting on the left-field side. He's been named the honorary chairman of this year's Tag Days drive for the Les Turner ALS Foundation.

As part of the drive, volunteers will collect donations throughout the Barrington area Friday through Sunday, including at grocery stores and busy street corners.

Since 1994, the Tag Days drive has raised nearly $1.6 million in the Chicago area, Lee said. The support of the Barrington High baseball team is one of the reasons they have been so successful, he added.
