Girls soccer: Dundee-Crown savors win over rival Jacobs

After dropping their last four matches by a combined score of 18-0, Dundee-Crown girls soccer coach Sebastian Falinski was seeking a solid effort against District 300 rival Jacobs in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action in Carpentersville Wednesday afternoon.

Falinski got more than he asked for.

Scoring 3 unanswered goals in the first half, D-C celebrated Senior Day with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Golden Eagles.

"We actually played very well in those losses against very good teams," said Falinski. "The formula today is we found the net and scored early. We put together an 80-minute effort. It was a fantastic way to honor the seniors."

Though it was a day to celebrate the Charger seniors, D-C sophomore Samantha Christensen excelled with 2 goals.

On a totally individual effort, Christensen dribbled the ball 50 yards past several Jacobs (7-8, 1-4) defenders and blasted a shot past Eagles goalie Emily Pasetes to give D-C (6-11-1, 2-3) a 1-0 advantage with 26:45 remaining in the first half.

Christensen scored her second goal of the day off an assist by Maggie Griffin with 14:48 left in the first 40 minutes to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead.

"On the first goal, I felt I had a step on the defense and was able to get a good angle for a shot," said Christensen. "I got a good pass on the second goal and got off a good shot. It was an exhilarating win. It was good to see the seniors get a win in their last home game.''

Falinski is happy to have Christensen for two more years.

"Samantha is a very talented young player," said the D-C coach. "She has a lot of potential to be a very good player going forward."

Anna Kieltyka gave the Chargers a 3-0 lead off a perfect pass from Jenna Berlet with 12:02 remaining before intermission. That was the score after 40 minutes.
