Baseball: St. Charles East blanks Elgin

Corbin Marucco had 2 hits and 2 runs scored while Anthony Adduci and Thomas Adams each had a double and 2 hits to lead the Saints (19-8, 14-4) to a 6-0 Upstate Eight River win over the Maroons. East put up 3 runs in each of the fifth and the seventh innings to help pitcher Niko Klebosists (6IP, 4H, 6K) toss a win. Elgin (6-21, 4-12) only mustered across 4 hits.

Geneva 5, Larkin 0: Joshua Rose (2 hits), Vincent MacDonald and Justin Hasegawa each had 1 RBI to help the Vikings (17-10, 13-7) to an UEC River win over the Royals (6-19, 2-15). Noah Davison notched a shutout on the mound allowing just 2 hits, 3 walks on 2 strikeouts in 7 innings of work.

South Elgin 8, West Chicago 0: Nate Gomez had 3 knocks, including a double and 4 RBI as the Storm (15-6, 12-2) jumped on the Wildcats early in this UEC Valley win. Mitch Butvilas collected 2 hits while Justin Howard and Adam Walker both doubled. South Elgin's 8 runs on 10 hits were plenty enough to pad Dylan Wells, who shutdown West Chicago on 77 pitches, 2 hits and 6 strikeouts without any walks.

Cary-Grove 4, Huntley 0: Tyler Pennington's 2 hits included a double, a homer and an RBI in this Fox Valley Conference Valley win for the Trojans (20-7, 10-2). Matt McCumber (2B, 2 RBI) also added to the offense that supported pitcher Daniel Schmidt (4H, 5K, 0BB) who went the distance for the win. Joe Rizzo had 2 hits for the Red Raiders (15-13, 6-8).

Hampshire 9, Grayslake Central 8: The Whip-Purs (14-13, 7-10) smacked 11 hits while a 3-run sixth and 4-run sixth helped secure a rally and a FVC Fox win. Carter Lawler (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) led the Hampshire offense while Michael Kruse (2 hits) and Kevin Michaelsen (2 hits, 2 RBI, 2 BB) followed suit. Kruse (6IP, 10H, 8R, 3ER, 4K, 2BB) notched the win while Bryan Diete tallied the save.

Streamwood 4, Batavia 3: Tim Crom's RBI triple in the sixth was the difference in this UEC River win for the Sabres (7-16, 6-12). Crom went 3-for-3 with a double while Jake Painter, Keagan Cordone (RBI) and Juan Payne all doubled. Adam Sojda went all 7 for the win allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Ben Lyman (2 hits, 2 RBI) homered for the Bulldogs (13-6, 9-6).

Yorkville 5, Kaneland 1: The Knights (11-9, 7-3) were outscored 4-0 in the first in this NI Big 12 East loss. Joe Laudont and Jacob Violett each doubled for Kaneland, who was outhit 11-3.

Jacobs 4, McHenry 3 (8 inn.): Tim Randle reached on a fielder's choice in the eighth that scored Loen Nelson to edge the Warriors in this FVC Valley win. Cameron Wilson (2B) totaled 2 hits while Daniel Salomon had 1 RBI for the Golden Eagles (17-10, 7-6). Evan Liebau (2IP, 0H, 0R, 2K) was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief of Brad Demkovich (5IP, 4H, 3R, 3 ER, 6K, 2BB, 1HR). Jeff Anders had the save.

ACC 8, Riverside-Brookfield 3: Mario Magana had 2 doubles to go with 3 RBI and Jimmy Laurenti totaled 3 hits in a Metro Suburban West win for the Chargers (18-9, 11-5). ACC led 7-0 through 5 innings and compiled 10 hits, which was more than enough insurance for pitcher Jake Smith, who tossed for 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Bartlett 3, West Aurora 1: Mike Prang (2 hits) doubled and Ryan Temesvary had the only RBI as the Hawks (8-17, 5-10), who had just 5 hits, allowed 5 and still prevailed in this UEC Valley win.

Mount Carmel 11, Marmion 1 (5 inn.): The Cadets (8-19, 3-14) dropped this Chicago Catholic tilt as the Caravan scored 6 in the first and allowed 1 run on 6 hits. Brandon McPherson, who suffered the loss on the mound, led Marmion with 2 hits while Jonathan Young had 1 RBI.

Prairie Ridge 6, St. Charles North 1: The North Stars (23-4) dropped this nonconference game to the Wolves as PR's Joey Hanley allowed 1 run (none earned) on 3 hits, 9 strikeouts and 3 walks. Brendan Norberg doubled and Luke Corcoran (RBI) provided the only offense for North as Ryan Litarecz was chased out after 2 ⅔ innings pitched.

North Shore Country Day 12, Elgin Academy 2 (6 inn.): The Hilltoppers (17-9) were unable to grab an Independent School League win as a 5-run third broke it wide open. The Raiders out hit Elgin Academy 12-3 as Kevin Kuykendall (2B) accounted for Elgin Academy's only extra base hit.
