"We are thrilled to be able to provide this opportunity to share the wonders of science, technology, engineering and mathematics," said Director of Marketing and STEM-CON organizer Laurie Jorgensen. "The success of today's event is clear evidence that people are not only interested, but are passionate about the importance of STEM and STEM-related fields in our education, in our community and in our workforce."

The all-day event featured more than 40 booths offering interactive activities designed to inform, entertain and stimulate an interest in STEM, including extracting DNA from a strawberry, a weather balloon launch, river system development, nanotechnology, the physics of flight and robotics. Featured speakers included former Rocket Scientist Olympia LePoint, Nanoresearcher Dr. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, Associate Director of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory Dr. James Madsen and Fermilab's "Mr. Freeze" Jerry Zimmerman. In addition to COD faculty and staff, representatives from a variety of organizations were on hand, including American Science and Surplus, Argonne National Labs, Dark Energy Survey, Department of Natural Resources, Fermilab, Lewis University, Northwestern University, the Society of Women Engineers and University of Wisconsin River-Falls.
