Tile mosaic marking historic Will County farm vandalized

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - A mosaic marking an historic farm in Will County has been vandalized and a volunteer group that maintains it is looking to raise enough money for repairs.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports (http://bit.ly/24IoLkz ) that the mural commemorating the Will County Poor Farm was damaged recently. Local historian Gina Wysocki reported the damage to police. Deputy Chief Ed Gregory says the vandals "knocked out all the tile." Wysocki estimates it will cost about $10,000 to fix the mosaic and it's not insured.

The mosaic marks the site of the former poor farm and potter's fields. The site is owned by the state and leased by the Joliet Park District. Wysocki and a group of volunteers maintain it. The poor farm served as a last home for veterans and those with developmental disabilities.
