Mom accused in daughter's death is guilty of manslaughter

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) - A Schaumburg woman charged with killing her daughter in a botched murder-suicide attempt has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter of her 28-year-old disabled daughter.

Bonnie Liltz had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Courtney Liltz, who had cerebral palsy, couldn't walk and required 24-hour care.

The charge Liltz pleaded guilty to on Tuesday carries a sentence of 3 to 14 years in prison, but the judge has the option of probation.

In May 2015, Liltz and her daughter were found unresponsive in their Schaumburg home, where first responders found evidence of apparent overdoses of various medications. Liltz recovered, but Courtney died about a week later without regaining consciousness.

Prosecutors say Liltz was despondent over recurring health problems and concerned she wouldn't be able to care for Courtney.
