Kyuki-Do students earn black belts

Kyuki-Do Martial Arts of Elgin students earned black belt designations from the American Kyuki-Do Federation on Saturday, May 7.

The promotional examination was held at the Huntley Park District rec center on Saturday evening.

A total of 38 candidates from the Midwest tested, with 16 originating from Elgin.

Those earing their new designations were:

• 3rd Dan: Scott Thomas

• 2nd Dan: Amanda Chu, Ely Greenfeld, Reggie Madrigal, Ruby Perez, and Gavin Underhill

• 1st Dan: Mia Balleno, Stephanie Bodio, Ashley Brakeall, Christopher Brumbaugh-Cayford, Isaac Dungey, Luis Gonzales, Noa Greenfeld, Phillip Ptasinski, Nico Sassano, and Affan Siddiqui

The Elgin martial arts academy will hold a local celebration at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at 792 S. McLean Blvd. The community is invited to attend.
