Elgin High to host workshops in Spanish about immigration issues

Dr. Jesus Escalera Díaz, a psychologist from Mexico, is presenting workshops in Spanish at Elgin High School to help immigrant families and students communicate about separation, isolation and cultural shock.

Many Elgin Area School District U-46 students come from families who deal with similar matters as a result of being an immigrant.

Dr. Díaz will provide tools and experiences for participants to engage and learn to develop emotional strength to help bridge communication within the community.

Admission is free, however donations are accepted. Money raised will assist costs for a field trip to Mexico in June for high school students taking Spanish.

The workshops will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, and 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive. It is free; $10 donations accepted.
