Advocate Sherman Hospital again recognized for patient safety

Elgin, Ill. - Advocate Sherman Hospital has achieved an "A" grade for excellence in patient safety for the third consecutive time from the Leapfrog Group's biannual Hospital Safety Scores.

Leapfrog analysts use publicly available data to look at 28 different safety measures and assign grades based on how well hospitals are doing to protect patients from harm. Measurements include the hospital's ability to prevent errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

"Patient safety is our top priority at Advocate Sherman Hospital," says Linda Deering, hospital president. "We are honored to be recognized for the work we do every day to provide the safest, highest quality care for our patients and communities.

One example of this daily work is Sherman's focus on hand-washing. On May 5, World Hand Hygiene Day, Sherman associates and physicians raised awareness for this important issue by tracing their hands on banners hung all throughout the hospital to show their commitment to hand-washing. Proper hand-washing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs and infection at home, at school and in the hospital.

Other Advocate Health Care hospitals recognized with an A grade include Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
