Winners of AMI Violin Competition announced

Some of the Chicago area's best young violin talent performed May 1 in the 2016 AMI Violin Competition.

Violinists performed one piece/movement that was level appropriate (up to 10 minutes) with or without an accompanist.

To be considered for prize placement, contestants were required to perform their piece from memory and play piece in its entirety. The competition included young musicians, age 5-18.

AMI congratulates all who participated in the competition and made the most of a great opportunity to hone their musicianship.

The 2016 winners are:

• First prize, $400, Joshua Brown

• Second prize, $125, Anya Brumfiled

• Third prize, $75, Sophie Lekas

The 2016 laureates are: Justin Lee, Kaylee Kim and Linda Wang.

The 2016 AMI Violin Competition - Memorial Winners Concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at AMI's Clarendon Hills campus at Christ Lutheran Church, 60 55th St.
