  A giant flag hangs between two ladder trucks during the annual Elgin Area Firefighters' Memorial Saturday at the George Van De Voorde Firefighter Memorial Park in Elgin. The memorial is held each year to remember those who have served area communities and passed away in the previous year as well as to honor firefighters who have lost their lives in the line over the previous year. Bartlett, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin, Hampshire, Hanover Part, Hoffman Estates, Pingree Grove, Rutland, South Elgin, Streamwood and West Dundee fire departments participated in the memorial.
