Raises too lavish in new District 15 contract
You recently printed a column on the 10-year teachers' contract for District 15 Palatine, which itemized the progressive raises over the life of the contract. One that really caught my eye was the 4 percent annual increase in the last years of the contract.
My question is, how can they possibly justify this giveaway? Who is going to end up paying for this unwarranted largesse?
Social Security recipients were denied an increase this year allegedly because of the economy, but still the public employees want their 2 percent and 3 percent raises, automatically. Based on what?
And the cruelest part of this whole situation is that these continuous unwarranted raises are reflected in the pensions, at 3 percent compounded every year.
Social Security wage earners get no raises at all, and public employees get 3 percent compounded automatically. Where is the justice in this?
No social security for public employees, just an unending gravy train for the rest of their lives, which sometimes starts 20 years before the private sector. And all they do is cry poor mouth.
Give me their poverty any day. It sure outshines mine. And they wonder why Illinois is broke.
