Baseball: Larkin, Bartlett notch UEC wins

Zach Edgar went 6 innings and allowed just 3 hits Saturday, then Cy Kerber struck out 2 of the 4 batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh as the Larkin baseball team won just its second Upstate Eight Conference game of the season, beating West Chicago 1-0.

Seth Morford, courtesy running for Kerber who had singled, scored the only run of the game for the Royals (6-18, 2-14) on a balk in the top of the seventh.

Bartlett 10, Elgin 0: Mike Prang tossed a 2-hitter with 2 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Hawks (7-17, 4-10) to a UEC win. Leading the Bartlett offense were Cameron Mays (2 hits, 2B), Kyle Kucharski (2 hits), Tripp Paris (2 hits, 3 RBI), Prang (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Scott Palmer (3 RBI). Elgin (5-18, 4-7) had just 2 hits, by Edumndo Ramos and John Fortmann.

Glenbard East 5, St. Charles East 1: John Carroll had 2 hits for the Saints (18-8, 13-4) in this UEC loss. Keegan Kochis suffered the loss for SCE.

Hampshire 4, DeKalb 0: In nonconference action, Carter Lawler threw a 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 4 walks for Hampshire (13-12). Noah Schrader, Jacob Manning, Kyle Homa (RBI) and Pawel Barnas had the only hits for the Whip-Purs, who took advantage of 4 DeKalb errors.

Aurora Christian 4, Rockford Christian Life 1: Ethan Stoneberg allowed just 2 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in 5 innings for the Eagles in this Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Drew Wagner (2 hits, 2B, 3B), Dustin Barrett (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Stoneberg (2B, 3 RBI) led the AC offense.

Aurora Christian 21, Christian Liberty 1: In a second NAC game on Saturday, the Eagles (22-4-1, 12-0) pounded out 19 hits led by 3 each from Tanner Dissell (2B, 4 RBI), Dustin Barrett (2 RBI), Drew Henning (2B) and Ethan Stoneberg (2 doubles, 5 RBI). Winning pitcher Jacob Brothers added 2 hits and Gerald Marrero had a double.

Oswego 9, Kaneland 8: Will Ring had 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI while Luke Calabrese added 2 doubles and an RBI for Kaneland (10-8) in this nonconference loss. Jacob Violett had 2 hits and an RBI for the Knights and Ryan David was the losing pitcher.

Brother Rice 5, Marmion 1: Chase Stanks had 2 hits and an RBI and Will Matthews added a double for Marmion (8-17, 4-13) in a Chicago Catholic League loss. Collin Gibson took the loss for the Cadets.

Westminster Christian 11, South Beloit 10: Tyler Schoemann had 4 hits and 2 RBI and winning pitcher Nathen Martinez added 3 hits with a double and an RBI for the Warriors (12-15) in their nonconference win. Also contributing were Ian Merlak (2 doubles), Justin Rasmussen (2 hits, 3 RBI), Matthew Schulenburg (2B) and Nick DeMaira (2B).

Barrington 9, Dundee-Crown 4: Nick Musielewicz had 2 hits and Erik Hedmark drove in 2 runs for Dundee-Crown (12-10) in this nonconference loss. Conor Ryan was the losing pitcher.

Harvest Christian 6, Byron 5: Brock Wilken's sacrifice fly drove in Zach Pawelek with the winning run in the top of the eighth as the Lions (16-11) prevailed in this nonconference game. Wilken also had a double and 2 RBI while Pawelek had 3 hits and Drew Lewis 2 hits and an RBI. Lewis pitched a complete game for the win, allowing 9 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.
