Softball: Seniors soaring for Conant

Senior day for Conant's battery of Sara Neuman and catcher Dream Aaron was a complete success on Friday.

Neuman ran her record to 14-0 with 14 strikeouts and 3-hitter while her batterymate Aaron went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, double and 3 RBI as the host Cougars posted a five-inning, 14-4 win over Hoffman Estates in the Mid-Suburban West softball game.

Conant (17-2, 11-0) maintained its 2-game lead in the West as junior Morgan Bihun (2-for-4) belted a homer for the home team and finished with 4 RBI and 2 runs.

Also celebrating senior day were Brittany Bihun (2-for-4, 1 run) and Katie Klingsporn (1-for-2).

Other top hitters for the Cougars were Sydney Correa (2-for-3, 2 runs), Neuman (2-for-4, RBI) and Paige Nallen (2-for-4, 1 run).

Mary Bean (1-for-3, 2 RBI, double), Jordyn Fera (1-for-2, RBI, 1 run) and Brynn Connelly (1-for-2, RBI) had hits for Hoffman (3-18, 1-10).

Barrington 23, Palatine 2 (5 inn.): Senior Liz Sweeney's 3-run homer was her fourth in five games as the visiting Fillies raised their record to 22-4 and 10-2 behind sophomore pitcher Catherine McMahon (17-3).

McMahon struck out three in four innings while classmate Caroline Hoppe struck out the side in the fifth inning.

Other top hitters for the Fillies were Abbey Jacobsen (4-for-5, 2 doubles, RBI), Rachel Krzysko (2-for-4, double, RBI), Jamie Brown (2-for-2, 3 RBI), Kelly Katis (3-for-4, triple, double, 2 RBI), Rachel Macdonald (3-for-5, 3 RBI), Carly Kordich (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Jenna Fingerman (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Kendall Peterson (2-for-3, 2 RBI).

Leading the offense for the Pirates (8-13, 5-7) was Emily Parrott (2-for-2, RBI) while Brooke Bauer, Maddie Craver and Kenzie Craver each had 1 hit.

Elk Grove 20, Prospect 1 (5 inn.): Winning pitcher Kylie Thomsen (9-3) struck out seven in 3 innings and Sabra Morton had 3 strikeouts in 2 innings as the MSL East-leading Grenadiers improved to 18-3 and 8-3.

The host Grens had 4 homers, led senior Sarah Pauscher (2-for-3) who belted a pair of 3-run blasts for 6 RBI. She now has 11 homers this spring.

Alex Masnica (3-for-5, RBI) and Thomsen (3-for-4, 2 RBI) also hit homers for EG.

Other top hitters for the Grens were Haley Itzenthaler (2-for-5, 2 RBI), Anna Bonder (3-for-4, double, RBI), Morton (3-for-3, 3 RBI) and Mackenzie Flannery (double).

Junior Cate Meersman clubbed a solo homer for Prospect (5-15, 3-8).

Buffalo Grove 13, Rolling Meadows 9: Junior Jasmine Avalos went 5-for-5 with 4 RBI and 2 doubles for visiting Buffalo Grove.

Junior Alyssa DePhillips was the winning pitcher and also went 3-for-5 at the plate.

Other top hitters for BG were Olivia Morini (3-for-4, double), Emily Carnes (2-for-5) and Bailey Williams (3-for-4).

Freshman Sara Benner (3-for-4, 5 RBI) set the Meadows single-season school record home run record by belting her ninth.

Benner also had a double while other top hitters for the Mustangs (13-10, 4-7) were Caroline Slowik (2-for-5), Emily Schmidt (2-for-4), Meghan Slowik (2-for-4) and Amanda Elkins (2-for-3).

Hersey 10, Wheeling 0 (5 inn.): Sophomore Jodie Hermann belted 2 triples and went 3-for-3 for the host Huskies (11-10, 7-5) while teammates Katie Wingerter (2-for-3) and Makayla Tsagalis each had doubles in the MSL East game.

Freshman Sarah Bailitz (7-6) earned the win after throwing 3⅔ innings while classmate Brianna Luciano went the final 2⅓ shutout innings.

Wheeling (0-14, 0-10) was led on offense by sophomore Olivia Walker (2-for-3), senior Abby Greenspan (1-for-2) and Nicole Ferraro (1-for-3).
