White Sox designate Danks for assignment, recall Johnson

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago White Sox designated left-hander John Danks for assignment and recalled right-hander Erik Johnson from Triple-A Charlotte in time for Thursday's start against the Boston Red Sox.

Johnson was sent back to the minors after he threw five shaky innings and took the loss. The White Sox will make a corresponding roster move before Friday's game against Minnesota.

Chicago also placed reliever Jake Petricka on the 15-day disabled list with a right-hip impingement and recalled pitcher Tommy Kahnle from Charlotte on Thursday.

General manager Rick Hahn said Tuesday the White Sox were letting Danks go after 10 years. The 31-year-old went 7-15 with a 4.71 ERA in 30 starts last season, and got hit hard while dropping his first four outings this year.

Johnson, who was 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA in four starts with Charlotte, was with the White Sox from April 19-24 but did not pitch.

Petricka is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in nine appearances.
