Badminton: Three sectional champs for Mid-Suburban League

The Mid-Suburban League produced three sectional team champions on Thursday as Buffalo Grove, Fremd and Palatine each finished on top at different state-qualifying sites.

MSL champion Buffalo Grove took top honors in the meet it hosted, finishing with 16.5 points and qualifying all its entrants to state.

Seniors Tori Appelt and Allison MacDonald won doubles, and junior teammates Katie Jarosz and Megan Gamber were second for the Bison. In singles, Buffalo Grove advanced Gabby Yordanova and Sarah Altieri in the second and third positions.

Conant was second with 10 points. The Cougars' Burcin Asilturk was the singles champion, and her teammate Sunaina Addanki grabbed the fourth and final state-qualifying spot.

• Fremd won the sectional it hosted with 17 points, getting winning efforts from Jenny Li in singles and from Stephanie Mbi/Vanshika Ramesh in doubles. Hannah Chen was second in singles, and Phoebe Fu/Jenny Chu placed fourth in doubles.

Rolling Meadows was second with 11 points and got a state-qualifying effort from Misaki Ishiura in singles. Hoffman Estates will also be represented at state, by senior Roshni Patel, who placed third in singles.

• Palatine qualified all its entrants from the sectional hosted by Schaumburg, winning the competition with 15 points. Kamila Czyszczon won singles, and Julie Lorenzo placed third. In doubles, Jodie McLennan/Valery Kravtchouk were second and teammates Samantha Ortiz/Sophia Kics were third.

Schaumburg's Dhun Patel/Wasinee Siewsrichol won the doubles title.

• Hersey finished second at its sectional, getting a fourth-place singles finish from Sammi Lee and a championship at doubles from Kimberly Hay/May Napora.

Maine West's Brooke Gorski/Megan Kalinowski advanced with a second-place doubles finish.

• Prospect finished third at New Trier and will be represented at state by Jazzmine Klopack, who finished fourth in singles play.
