Amtrak allows bikes on trains between Milwaukee and Chicago

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Passengers are now allowed by Amtrak to take bicycles aboard Hiawatha trains running between Milwaukee and Chicago.

The Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/23nT65C ) reported Tuesday that the service permitting bikes on Hiawatha trains has a cost of $5. The service requires reservations, and there can be as many as 15 bicycles on each train.

Dave Schlabowske, deputy director of Wisconsin Bike Fed, says the bicycling advocacy organization has pushed for at least five years for Amtrak to have the bicycle service between Chicago and Milwaukee. Previously, bicycles had to be partially taken apart and shipped in cartons.
