One-time vet clinic manager charged in theft

A one-time business manager for the St. Charles Veterinary Clinic was charged Tuesday with stealing money from the clinic, authorities said.

Martha P. Strauss, 52, faces two felony counts of theft for incidents alleged to have occurred between 2009 and 2015, police said in a news release.

The theft of the funds - at least $100,000 - was made to appear as routine business transactions, police said.

Strauss is no longer employed by the clinic.

Police initiated their investigation Dec. 23, 2015, when they were contacted by officials at the clinic, located at 530 Dunham Road.

Strauss, of the 200 block of South Harrison Street in Geneva, was taken into custody Tuesday.

Her bail was set at $25,000 Tuesday afternoon and she was released on her own recognizance. She is due in court again June 9.
