Family and friends are grieving the loss of Tracy Czaczkowski, a 44-year-old Buffalo Grove mom who died yesterday, two days after she was shot on a Wisconsin interstate while sitting in the passenger seat of her family's car. She and her family were coming back from a trip to the Wisconsin Dells. The suspected shooter, 20-year-old Zachary T. Hays, of West Allis, Wisconsin, is also suspected in a fatal shooting that occurred in that town Sunday. Full story.

Donald Trump all but clinched the Republican presidential nomination last night with a resounding victory in Indiana that knocked rival Ted Cruz out of the race. On the Democratic side, Vermont Sen. A husband shot at his wife last night as she was fleeing their St. Charles house after a domestic battery, police said. The woman was not struck by gunfire, and a passer-by tackled the man and held him until police arrived, according to a news release. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Gunshot victim drives himself to Elgin hospital</h3>

A 28-year-old man was shot, then drove himself to the hospital yesterday afternoon in Elgin, police said. Police were called about 4:20 p.m. after the victim arrived at Presence St. Joseph Hospital. The man's injuries are not considered life-threatening. Full story.

A Southern Illinois University freshman from Mount Prospect is in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital after falling at least 40 feet from a bluff at a downstate state park, officials said. Jamie Maughan was walking the nature trail Monday morning with two other students at Giant City State Park, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Full story.

<h3 class="briefHead">Cook County circuit clerk wants a raise</h3>

Cook County circuit court Clerk Dorothy Brown has asked for a pay raise to address what she called a "grossly inequitable" salary compared to that of other county officials. Brown makes a base salary of $105,000, compared to $160,000 for the sheriff, $188,076 for the chief judge, $192,789 for the state's attorney, and $194,574 for the public defender. Full story.

A former Waukegan man freed from prison last year after serving more than 15 years in prison for a murder he did not commit is suing Lake County, the city of Waukegan and more than a dozen current and former law enforcement officers. The suit filed by Jason Strong, 40, alleges the city and its police coerced witnesses and fabricated evidence, and intentionally inflicted emotional distress and immeasurable harm resulting from his "lengthy and unjust incarceration." After the White Sox announced they were releasing John Danks who pitched poorly in all four outings this season, the team built on their otherwise strong start to the 2016 season with a 4-1 victory last night over the Boston Red Sox.
