Michigan's Chatman receives release, plans to transfer

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Kameron Chatman has been granted his release from Michigan's basketball program and plans to transfer.

The school on Tuesday announced the 6-foot-8 Chatman's departure. Chatman averaged 2.8 points per game and made only two starts for Michigan in 2015-16, but his last-second shot to beat Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament helped put the Wolverines in the NCAA Tournament.

Chatman will have two seasons of eligibility left after sitting out 2016-17. Michigan coach John Beilein says Chatman is a "wonderful young man with the potential to mature into a fine college player."

Michigan has had several players transfer this offseason, although none was necessarily projected to start next season. Spike Albrecht, Ricky Doyle and Aubrey Dawkins have left the program to play elsewhere.
