Butler assistant Michael Lewis joining Miles' Nebraska staff

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Michael Lewis is leaving his assistant coaching job at Butler to take the same position at Nebraska under Tim Miles.

Lewis announced his departure from the Bulldogs on Tuesday in a tweet in which he thanked players, coaches, staff and fans for the opportunity to work five seasons at the Indianapolis school.

The Bulldogs appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times while Lewis was on the staff. Former Butler coach Brad Stevens hired Lewis in 2011. Lewis previously was an assistant at Eastern Illinois and Stephen F. Austin and was a graduate assistant at Texas Tech under Bob Knight. He was a guard for Indiana from 1997-2000.

Lewis replaces Phil Beckner, who resigned three weeks ago to take an assistant's job at Boise State.
