Baseball: Wauconda stays perfect in Prairie

Korey Soetaert fired a three-hit shutout, and Wauconda's baseball team stayed undefeated in the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division with a 7-0 win over host Grant on Tuesday.

Soetaert struck out five and walked one. Trevor Sefcik and Alex Machon both went 2-for-4 with a double for Wauconda (7-0 NSC Prairie). Collin Shrader and Greg LePage also doubled, and John Herbst was 2-for-4.

Grant fell to 15-9 and 3-4 in the division.

Warren 9, Vernon Hills 4: Michael Rosenberg and Matt Burch homered, as the Blue Devils won the North Suburban crossover.

Ricky Lee hit a pair of doubles for Warren (18-5), which got doubles as well from Tanner Dyer and Luke Schmitt.

Sam LaMotte earned the win.

Brennan Reback homered and singled for Vernon Hills, which also got 2 hits apiece from Tony Brown and Nick Marras.

Grayslake Central 1, Woodstock 0: Sam Ruhlmann tossed a complete-game shutout and freshmen Kevin O'Brien had an RBI double, as the Rams won a hard-fought road game in Fox Valley Fox action.

Ruhlmann picked up his fourth win on the season, striking out six and walking one. O'Brien's double plated Justin Shepley in the fifth inning.

Antioch 4, Lakes 3: Thomas Boeh went 2-for-2, Austin Marsiglio was 2-for-3 and Jake Emer was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI, as the host Sequoits won the North Suburban Prairie contest.

Alex Unekis had a triple for Antioch (7-2 NSC Prairie). Connor Kaiser pitched 5 innings for the win, allowing 2 run (1 earned). Sonny Mentone allowed 1 run over the final two innings to earn the save.

Lakes (9-13, 4-5) got extra-base hits from twin brothers Matt Milewski (1-for-2, double, run) and Ben Milewski (1-for-2, triple, run, walk).

Stevenson 7, Zion-Benton 4: Pat Loeffler and Michael Marchese hit solo home runs for the host Patriots, who spotted the Zee-Bees a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning in the North Suburban Lake game.

Dylan Molek (triple) and Robbie McGaha (double) were both 2-for-3 for Stevenson (16-6-1, 6-3). Jack Cappalli also had a double.

Marchese also earned the win, pitching a complete-game three-hitter. He struck out seven and walked one.

Libertyville 4, Lake Zurich 2: Sophomore Riley Gowens pitched 6⅔ innings in earning the win, striking out eight, walking two and scattering 5 hits. Both runs he allowed were unearned.

Scott Hay got the final out for the save.

Offensively for Libertyville, Ben Kimpler was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and double. It was Kimpler's fifth home run in the Wildcats' last five games. Tim Calamari and Jackson Petersen also doubled for Libertyville.

Lake Zurich got 2-for-4 efforts at the plate from Nick Sanders and Tyler Snepp.

Round Lake 18, North Chicago 2: Javier Gonzalez doubled, walked twice and drove in 3 runs for the Panthers in North Suburban Prairie action.

Winning-pitcher Paul Lew helped himself by going 3-for-3 at the plate. Lew pitched 4 ⅓ innings, striking out eight.

Carmel 9, Nazareth 3: Austin Ehren and Matt Collins (2 RBI) both finished 2-for-4 for the Corsairs in the East Suburban Catholic contest.

Winning-pitcher Joe Santoro (double), Eddie Pietschmann (1-for-2) and Jack Lupor (1-for-1) also had 2 RBI apiece. Santoro allowed 2 earned runs in 5⅓ innings pitched.
