Softball: Wedl pitches Wauconda past Antioch with no-hitter, 17 strikeouts

Kayla Wedl pitched a no-hitter, striking out 17, and Wauconda's softball team avenged a loss to Antioch last month by beating the host Sequoits 5-0 on Tuesday.

The win hiked Wauconda's record to 16-5 and 6-1 in the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division. Antioch fell to 17-7 and 7-2.

Wedl (9-2) walked the first batter she faced, Jill Foote, then didn't allow another base runner the rest of the game.

The senior was aided by a big first inning, started by leadoff hitter Kayla Serio, who doubled to start the game. Wedl doubled to drive in Serio, and then Mallory Carver and Alex Steffens hit back-to-back home runs to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.

In the Wauconda fifth, Wedl doubled and scored on Steffens' single.

Wedl finished the contest 4-for-4 with 2 doubles.

Libertyville 11, Lake Forest 1: Hannah Heraty pitched a six-inning no-hitter for the Wildcats in the North Suburban Lake game.

She struck out four and didn't walk a batter.

Offensively for Libertyville (17-5, 7-1), Jamie Stevens, Maggie Evers and Kenzie Rother were all 3-for-4. Frannie Quenan went 2-for-4 with a double, and Emily Hilldale was 1-for-1 with a double and 3 RBI. Jessie Lauret and Madeleine Hollinger were both 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Wildcats.

Grayslake Central 1, Crystal Lake Central 0: Reagen Radke dominated, as the visiting Rams eked out the Fox Valley Fox win.

Radke (11-8) pitched a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one. She also went 2-for-4 with a double at the plate.

Brooke Heraty drove in the game's only run for Grayslake Central (12-11, 5-1) in the fourth inning. Heraty finished 2-for-2.

Grayslake North 16, Woodstock North 2: Freshman Grace Brown had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run and 5 RBI for the Knights in the Fox Valley Fox game.

Brown, Jessica Vaughn (2 RBI), Rebecca Sosa (2 RBI), Molly Rutkowski (RBI) and Angelica Diaz (RBI) all had multiple hits on the day.

Grayslake North pitcher Jenna Pozezinski scattered 5 hits to go along with 10 strikeouts and 2 earned runs.

Vernon Hills 15, Round Lake 2: Delaney Bowen was 3-for-5 with 5 RBI, Dana Meline went 3-for-5 as well, and the Cougars cruised in the North Suburban Prairie game.

Winning-pitcher Danielle Comitor doubled twice and knocked in a pair of runs, finishing 2-for-3. She allowed 1 earned run in a five-inning complete game, striking out six and not walking a batter. Jessica Salerno and Sami Saliba (double) were both 2-for-4. Sara Lenzi had a home run and 3 RBI.

Round Lake got a homer from Katie Bleim (2-for-3). Brianna Negrete had a double.

Grant sweeps North Chicago: The Bulldogs beat the Warhawks 13-2 and 12-0 in the North Suburban Prairie doubleheader.

Keyana Linbo shined in both games for Grant. In the Bulldogs' 13-2 win, she was 3-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI. Megan Chapman finished 2-for-2 with a double.

Maddy Nourigat also had a double for the Bulldogs. Chapman pitched a four-inning complete game, allowing 1 hit and striking out eight.

In Grant's 10-0 win, Linbo (2-for-2) homered and doubled, driving in 4 runs. Taylor Adkin also had a double. Chapman was the winning pitcher again, striking out eight and allowing 2 hits in 4 innings.
