Soroptimist GED Grant Recipient

Josephine Akua Opoku was chosen as this year's recipient of the GED Grant. Josephine, a resident of Lombard, IL, is pursuing certification at the College of DuPage. She hopes to receive her certificate this month. She aspires to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and ultimately to become a Nurse Practitioner (MSN-NP).

Josephine's role model is her mother who has always cared for other people. Josephine's goal is to establish a not-for-profit organization that would allow her to provide free basic healthcare for those who cannot afford medical bills.

Soroptimists strive to improve the lives of women and girls in the local area and globally through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Soroptimist International of Suburban Chicago offers several Grants/Awards for women and girls.
