Softball: Elgin's Rago throws perfect game against St. Edward

Elgin senior Jessica Rago threw a perfect game, outdueling St. Edward senior Lindsay Zdroik, and started the game-winning rally in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday as the Maroons defeated the Green Wave (14-7) 1-0 in a nonconference softball game.

Both pitchers took no-hitters into the seventh inning and Rago completed hers. Then she led off the bottom of the inning with a double, the only hit of the game off Zdroik. Courtesy runner Dana Johnson went to third on Cassidy Sell's groundout and then scored the winning run on Dannah Perryman's grounder when she beat the throw home.

Rago and Zdroik each struck out 13 batters and Rago didn't issue a walk while the Maroons (5-16) played errorless defense behind her.

West Aurora 2, DeKalb 0: Hannah Beatus threw a 2-hitter with 15 strikeouts and no walks as the Blackhawks (16-1) won this nonconference game. Carley Frauenhoff had 2 hits and drove in both runs for West Aurora, Corey McCreedy added 2 hits and Grace Hunger had a double.

Streamwood 17, East Aurora 0: Jessica Daley threw a 2-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks and added 2 doubles and 2 RBI as the Sabres (9-12, 5-7) won this Upstate Eight crossover. Becky Roncone had 3 hits with 2 home runs and 5 RBI for Streamwood while Rebecca Daley added 3 hits with a double and an RBI. Also contributing were Taylyr Crocilla (2 hits), Nijal Desai (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Corinne Angle (2B, RBI).

South Elgin 14, Larkin 11: Alexa Rogalla had 2 hits with a grand slam home run, a double and 7 RBI to lead the Storm (11-12, 4-5) to this UEC crossover win. Alissa Hargett drove in 3 runs for South Elgin, Amber Derr had 2 hits and an RBI, Stacy Bellack and Hannah Gordon 2 hits each and Graceanne Aldred 2 hits and 2 RBI. Geneva Pollman was the winning pitcher in relief. Gloria Stoltz had 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI for Larkin, Sam Wahl added 2 hits and Jocelyn Jimenez had a double and an RBI.

Bartlett 14, Fenton 1: Amber Pagan allowed 2 hits with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings and Taylor Rotondo had a 3-run home run to lead Bartlett (15-7) to a nonconference win. Katie Fornoff added 2 doubles and an RBI for the Hawks and Pagan had a double and 3 RBI.

Westminster Christian 6, Hiawatha 5: Taryn Boltz drove in Becca Fugiel with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Warriors (6-9, 4-3) to a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Sarah Schmitt had 2 hits for Westminster, Fugiel added a double and Rachel Schmitt drove in 2 runs. Kristen Mason was the winning pitcher.

Batavia 13, Wheaton Academy 3: In a nonconference game, Rachael Lovestrand had 3 hits with a home run and 4 RBI to lead the Bulldogs to the win. Toni Galas had 3 hits for Batavia, while Jaelen Lisberg had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI and Lauren Wencewicz added 2 doubles and an RBI. Kaylan Waldron allowed 8 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win.

McHenry 6, Cary-Grove 3: Anna Whitaker (3 RBI) and Alea Charlier each had doubles and Alyssa Gurgone added 2 hits for Cary-Grove (6-12, 1-4) in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division loss. Krissy Weber took the loss for the Trojans.

Woodstock North 11, Hampshire 8: Peyton DeChant had 3 hits and 3 RBI for Hampshire (10-12, 2-4) in this FVC Fox loss. Melissa Esparaza added 2 hits with a triple and an RBI for the Whip-Purs while Sarah Bowen had 2 hits with a double and Jasmine Lopez a double and an RBI.

IC Catholic 15, Aurora Christian 5: Callie Britt had a double, triple and RBI while Janae Holloway (RBI), Sadie Nichols and Grace Folino each added 2 hits for Aurora Christian (2-12) in this nonconference loss.
