Softball: Neuman keeps Conant unbeaten in MSL

Senior Sara Neuman kept her record flawless, as did her Conant Cougars in the Mid-Suburban West.

Neuman (11-0) fired a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts as Conant's softball team improved to 14-2 and 8-0 in the West with a 4-0 shutout over Mid-Suburban East leader Elk Grove.

She got all the runs she needed in the first inning, when host Conant scored three times.

Top hitters for the Cougars were Dream Aaron (2-for-3), Sydney Correa (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Sam Gadomski (1-for-3, 1 run), Jackie Burchfield (1-for-3, 1 run). Morgan Bihun had an RBI and scored a run.

Grens junior Kylie Thomsen (7-3) struck out nine.

Carly Crothers and Keeley Cronin had the hits for Elk Grove (16-3, 6-3).

Fremd 5, Hersey 0: Catcher Lexi D'Ambrosio belted her third homer in as many games for Fremd, which improved to 16-3 and 7-1 in the MSL West.

D'Ambroiso's 3-run blast over the right center field fence made it 5-0 in the fifth inning of the first of two games at Rolling Meadows High School, which hosted a fundraiser for Rett syndrome.

D'Ambrosio had a grand slam against Elk Grove on Friday and a solo shot against Barrington in the Vikings' last two games.

Senior Abby Iuorio went 2-for-3 for Fremd while Jessica Mazur, Kylie Hess, Becca Uhrich and Reagan Schneider each had 1 hit.

Nikki Kehoe (12-2) threw a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts.

The defensive gem of the game came in the fifth inning when second baseman Uhrich dove for a grounder which she nabbed near second base. She turned and fired to first baseman Julia Wacker at first for the first out.

Hannah Graff, Kim Labahn and Remy Gerew had the hits for Hersey (8-10, 4-5), which used freshmen Sarah Bailitz and Brianna Luciano on the mound.

Palatine 9, Rolling Meadows 8: Maddie Craver (6-1) earned the win with 8 strikeouts as the Pirates (8-9) were led on offense by Kenzie Craver (3-for-5, 2 runs) and Jade DeMars (2-for-4, 3 RBI).

Kenzie Craver's single to center in the bottom of the seventh brought home Victoria Parrott with the winning run, capping a 4-run rally.

Meadows had gone ahead in the top of the seventh on doubles by Meghan Slowik and Amanda Elkins.

Paige Connor (3-for-5, double) and Mallory King (3-for-5) were multiple hitters for the Mustangs (13-8, 4-5).

Palatine's Grace Huff (batting .623 with a .672 on base percentage) hit safely and has a hit in every game this year.

Prospect 21, Hoffman Estates 8 (5 inn): Alex Kanter (3-for-5), Maddie Borkowski (4-for-5, home run), Jennifer Strickland (3-for-5), Alyssa Cacini (2-for-4, home run), Colleen Palczynski (2-for-4, home run) and Hannah Brummer (2-for-4, double) led the offense for Prospect (4-13, 2-6). Sophomore Alexa Meinzer earned the win.

Senior Jordyn Fera went 3-for-3 for host Hoffman (3-16, 1-8) with a home run and double. Teammate Mary Bean tripled.

Barrington 9, Buffalo Grove 0: Liz Sweeney (3-for-4, 5 RBI) belted a grand slam in the first inning for host Barrington (19-4, 7-2).

Other multiple hitters for the Fillies were Rachel Macdonald (3-for-4, RBI), Abbey Jacobsen (2-for-3, 1 run) and Rachel Krzysko (3-for-3, triple, 2 RBI, double).

The Fillies' Catherine McMahon (14-3) struck out three while Caroline Hoppe recorded 8 strikeouts in relief.

Jasmine Avalos had a double for Buffalo Grove (3-14, 1-9) while Olivia Morini and Grace Gran had the other hits for the Bison.

Schaumburg 13, Wheeling 1: The Saxons improved to 12-5 and 6-1 in the MSL West heading into Tuesday's 5 p.m. game with visiting Hoffman Estates.
