No wonder Chicken Little's stressed out

As I read an article in the paper recently suggesting that rising ocean levels could cause the east coast to flood and erode away, I was reminded of the story of Chicken Little. That poor stressed out hen was sure the sky was falling, telling everyone who would listen that a piece of it had fallen and hit her on the head. Then I remembered that only a few years ago science was bemoaning the decrease in ocean levels. Sounds like a cycle, doesn't it?

Reading Ecclesiastes in the Bible this morning I was struck by Solomon's wisdom as he said one generation goes, another comes but the earth remains, the rivers flow into the sea but it's not full, the earth has existed for ages. Things change but ultimately they stay the same.

One day, at the end of time, heaven and earth will be destroyed and will be replaced by a new heaven and earth in which God will dwell with His people, all those who by faith have trusted in His only means of salvation, the risen Lord Jesus Christ. In this new earth there will be no more death, crying, mourning, or pain, according to the book of Revelation. Our present earth's final destruction will not be from ocean levels rising or falling, by "climate change" or any other process. It will happen in an instant at God's command. We don't know the day or the hour but it could be soon. The question is are we ready?
