Ajax beats Twente to stay top of Dutch Eredivisie

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - Ajax beat FC Twente 4-0 Sunday to stay top of the Eredivisie on goal difference from defending champion PSV Eindhoven.

PSV beat Cambuur Leeuwarden 6-2 to keep the pressure on Ajax going into next weekend's final round, but did not manage to cut into Ajax's six-goal advantage.

Vaclav Cerny, starting his first league match for Ajax, opened the scoring in the 38th. Mike van der Hoorn, Viktor Fischer and Amin Younes all scored in seven frenetic minutes late in the match at the Amsterdam Arena to ensure Ajax is in pole position for its 34th Dutch title.

PSV's victory kept it level on points, but it faces a tough away match at 7th-placed PEC Zwolle next week, while Ajax plays at second-last De Graafschap Doetinchem.

"I'm disappointed," PSV captain Luuk de Jong told Dutch broadcaster NOS. "It's such a waste that we conceded those goals and missed chances to score more."

The defeat for Cambuur meant relegation for the team from Leeuwarden, which has won only three league matches so far this season.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer said his team wasn't across the line yet, but he added: "We have taken a very big step toward the title."
