School District U-46 offers new app

School lunch menus, district news, an email for a principal or coach - all of this and more can now be easily accessed in via a smartphone and a new School District U-46 app available for free from the App Store or Google Play.

"We're excited to introduce the mobile app to the U-46 community," said CEO Tony Sanders. "This is a great way for parents to find the information they need quickly and efficiently."

The mobile app offers students, parents and community members direct links to the district and schools' websites, highlights top stories from the social media feeds, the district calendar, lunch menus and Infinite Campus to view grades.

Other features include the school directory, quick access to high school sports scores, the weekly e-newsletter from CEO Sanders and even a link to the weather forecast.

In conjunction with the app launch, School District U-46 is challenging its schools to put this new tool to use through a friendly competition, running through May 13 that aims to drive parent downloads of the app.

"The app is the perfect way to meet the needs of families of this day and age," said Glenbrook Elementary School Principal Cheryl DeRoo. "It allows parents, students and staff to connect on the go in an easy and convenient way."

The U-46 Educational Foundation supported the app launch with a $5,000 grant. The U-46 Foundation was established in 2008 to cultivate educational programs and activities not typically financed with tax dollars. Individual and corporate donations comprise the primary form of fundraising. Private resources play an important role in supporting activities that go beyond the district curriculum.

"We're happy to support a tool that promises to help our U-46 families and friends stay informed," said E.C. "Bud" Wilson, president of the U-46 Educational Foundation. "The app helps our district and school leaders become even more accessible."
